Fear 2: Project Origin

Ok, admit it… Fear made you have to change your pants at one point didn’t it? Well Fear 2: Project Origin will leave you crying for your mommy! It is highly recommended that you leave your lights on while you play but if you really want to feel your skin crawl, your spine tingle, and your hair stand on end, then by all means, play at night, with the lights out, by yourself. Everything about this game has been upgraded, from the character AI to the the way blood splatters across the scene. And there will be LOTS of blood.
Play as Sgt. Michael Beckett of the Special Forces as he fights to survive against Alma’s supernatural powers. There will be new enemies and lots of new weapons. One of the new enemies you will encounter are the remnants. If you get too close to one they will give out a scream that will disorient you. But that’s not the worst of it. Remnants have the power to control any of the dead bodies that happen to be in the vicinity. They will look for anything that they can use to attack you. This game will make you scream for more, or just leave you screaming altogether.

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune

This is one of the best games we have ever laid our eyes on. The graphics are just incredible. Follow fortune hunter Nathan Drake as he explores ancient ruins looking for the famous treasure of El Dorado. There will be plenty of clues throughout the jungle to help you out. Along the way search for little trinkets to add to your personal collection (60 in all!). Enjoy the gun fights and high speed chases of this game that play out much like a scene from an action movie. There is a great mix between the amount of puzzles and combat. The hand to hand combat is worthy of a ninja and you can use anything from small pistols and uzis to mp40’s and ak-47’s. Once you complete the game you can unlock more challenging modes and perks that you can use at any time.
The story was enjoyable even for someone that just happens to be in the room watching. Nathan and his friends Sonny and Elena explore ancient caves, navigate 400 year old ruins and travel through amazing jungles in search of treasure while at the same time fighting off others who have joined the hunt. They will face many enemies on their journey to find the lost city of gold. And then the whole story takes on a weird turn when you find out what the treasure is. Definitely a great addition to anyone’s collection. This game has set a new level of realism and detail that others will now have to match. Can not wait for the sequel to this great game.

Taken

Liam Neeson stars as Bryan Mills, a man who gave up his job as a spy to be closer to his estranged daughter. After his daughter is kidnapped while on her trip to Paris, he instantly goes back into spy mode and uses all of his skills to tear through the whole city looking for her. He doesn’t let anyone get in his way. And those skills don’t just go away after time, let me tell you. My grandpa still has what it takes to be in the “family business”. But enough about him. It was impressive how, without all the fancy spy gizmos like old 007 uses, he was able to trace the whereabouts of his daughter’s kidnappers. Although he did have a sweet phone that he used to trace back a call. This movie was non-stop action all the way. It is rated pg 13 but don’t let that fool you, there is plenty of action and violence to keep you glued to your seat. Neeson was incredible in this movie and it just goes to show, you don’t mess with daddy’s little girl. It will be released on dvd May 12th, 2009.

Ninja Blade

Of course we had to take a look at this one! Ken Ogawa is a ninja after our own hearts. He fends off the people of Tokyo after they have been turned into monsters by alpha worms. With his skills at the sword, the twin knives, and the Stonerender, he takes on huge bosses. While there are about 3 bosses per level, the gameplay does seem to get repetitive after a while. I mean, one level is even named déjà vu and goes back to previous levels. Ken does have some sweet moves though and the in game cinematics are amazing. One big downside though, the overuse of quick time events where you have to press the correct button that pops up on screen. If you are not a fan of those, we do not suggest this game. They are everywhere. However with the awesome cinematics we were willing to overlook that. Some elements of the game shows us that the developers certainly did not mean for this game to be taken seriously. As one of the costume choices, you are allowed to dress up as a ninja clown. We are all for using any tactics to confuse your enemy… but clowns?

I give it 3.5 ninja stars! star3star3star3star41
For great cinematics and combat.

God of War III

One of the best game series we have ever laid our perfectly honed eyes on! Follow Kratos as he slaughters through legions of the undead, battles legendary mythical cratures and even takes down the gods! He is one spartan you do not want to mess with. If you have ever played any of the previous God of War games then you know about the great combat moves and fluidity of combos (worthy of a ninja, might i add), and about the good balance or fighting, puzzle solving, and story progression. Oh and what a story! The game series has a great premise and we would love to see it turned into a movie if produced well. This game has not yet been released but keep coming back for updates on this amazing game.

Resident Evil 5

The best way to describe RE 5 is Ninjtasic! (seriously, ninjas really say that!) If amazing made sweet ninja monkey love to awesome RE 5 is their lovechild. With ingenious co-op game play that leaves you screaming into your headset pleading with your partner to revive you in time, visuals that make the folks at pixar shed a tear, and enemies that never seem to let up RE 5 is a definite must have. Although RE 5 doesn’t offer the constant terror of earlier games in the series you may still find yourself needing a change of pants before it’s all said and done.
What many returning fans of the series may miss are the challenging puzzles that were strategically placed throughout the game. Instead of creating cool and interesting mysteries for the players to solve developers opted instead to just throw more enemies at you. Admittedly blowing away horde after horde of pissed off zombie wannabees is fantastic but the opportunity to flex your mental muscle will be missed. An interesting new challenge is the ability to only carry 9 items at a time. It will most likely annoy and excite you at the same time.
In game mechanics are nearly flawless. The occasional inability to properly revive your partner aside playing RE 5 is exactly what a game should be, FUN! Not only will you forget about the inability to run and gun, you’ll in fact begin to enjoy it! That’s right I said it, you’ll enjoy not being able to run and gun! Targeting is smooth and quick, the buy and sell system has been simplified, and the upgrade system offers some cool little goodies if you are persistant. All in all RE 5 is a must have, a must play, and a must drool over for years to come!
Don’t believe me? Try it out for yourself.

Prototype

We here at The Review Ninjas are absolutely drooling over this game! We cannot wait for it to come out June 9th 2009. Now this is a game that will take full advantage of what the playstation 3 is truly capable of. There’s fast and deadly shape-shifting combat. What ninja wouldn’t enjoy that? Consume anyone at anytime, take on their appearance and assume their memories and special abilities. Enjoy seamless and fluid bounding from building to building, running up walls, bouncing off cars and everything in your path…hmm, much like a ninja.
